What is Mission Day in Edmonton?

Mission Day in Edmonton, Saturday, June 11, is a public event held in conjunction with the 2005 LCC Synodical Convention. It has two parts:
- Mission Day Tour, on the campus of Concordia University College of Alberta
- Mission Festival, at the Mayfield Trade Centre in Edmonton
What is the Mission Day Tour?

Beginning with lunch at 12:45, the Mission Day Tour (included with the purchase of a Mission Day Passport) will include a tour of the facilities on the campus including the university college, Concordia High School, Concordia Lutheran Seminary, ABC District office and Lutheran Historical Institute.

From 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. twelve groups are led throughout the campus to spend 10-15 minutes with each participating group who will present key information which the delegates/participants can take back to congregations and circuits.
Who is presenting during the Mission Day Tour?

The following groups will present information about how they are resourcing the church for

- Lutheran Laymen's League (Lutheran Hour Ministries)... through the media
- Lutheran Women's Missionary League–Canada... to women today
- Canadian Lutheran World Relief... by meeting human need
- Lutheran Historical Institute... by remembering His faithfulness past
- LCC Worker Benefit Plans... with healthy bodies and minds
- Concordia Lutheran Mission Society... overseas
- LCC Seminaries... by preparing pastors
- Concordia University College... by preparing church workers
- Lutheran Teacher's Association... to children in Lutheran schools
- LCC Committee on Worship and Music... in worship and music
- Lutheran Foundation-Canada... by sharing resources
- National Youth Gathering... to youth
What is the Mission Festival?

Set around a "town square" with decorations to reflect an international theme, the Mission Festival at the Mayfield Trade Centre beginning at 6:45 p.m. will celebrate God's faithfulness and blessing on the mission/outreach efforts of LCC and its related organizations and agencies around the world.
- participating mission organizations will have interactive displays to engage guests using such things as costumes, artifacts etc
- a presentation stage with seating for a small audience will feature short verbal presentations; cultural displays etc.
- roving musicians will entertain the guests
- people who have served overseas are invited to attend and will be identified to allow them to interact with guests
- Mission Day Passports will pose questions about the various mission organizations which can only be answered by visiting the interactive display
- video screens will feature photos of various mission areas, activities and people
- LCC missionaries will be available for one-to-one conversations
- International guests will be available for one-to-one conversations
- a buffet will feature food from Thailand, Central America, Ukraine and Canada; round tables with seating for 8 will be available (seating for 160)
- CLWR will set up an "alternative trade" store of international items
What is a Mission Day Passport?

A passport is required to participate in the Mission Day activities (tour and festival). The passport includes Mission Day Tour (lunch and tour) at the Concordia campus and admission to the Mission Festival (dinner and exhibits) at the Mayfield Trade Centre. The cost is $39.95. There is no charge to participate in the campus tour portion of Mission Day, but please register. This registration DOES NOT include a lunch ticket.

If you only wish to attend the Mission Festival at the Trade Centre the festival passport is $35.

A complete passport is included with LCC Convention registration for delegates, convention guests and registered visitors. The convention will provide transportation from the convention hotel to the campus.
